We’re Sports Nuts, AND Qualified Ones At That!

Just like our campers, we eat, sleep and breathe sports. Our staff is filled with professional coaches, high school and college athletes, as well as experienced physical education teachers who promote the fundamentals through personalized instruction and positive reinforcement – all this while always maintaining a sense of humor and fun!

No matter the skill level of the child, the goal remains the same: to have fun, while learning the value of teamwork and good sportsmanship. All of which results in a positive, self-esteem building experience.

And we’re not new at this. Hi-Five is family-owned and operated and has been serving Chicago since 1999, providing safe, cutting-edge, skill-developing programs, such as our Hi-Five Housecalls, School Break Camps and our Hi-Five Hoops Jr. NBA Basketball Program.

FAQS

Will there be bus transportation?

Yes, for a fee. We offer 12-15 cluster stops to all our campers conveniently located around the city. Bus will be opt-in only. Our Cluster Stop map is accessible during registration or available upon request. Proposed 2025 Bus Stops

What should my child bring to camp?

All campers need to bring to camp is athletic shoes, a water bottle marked clearly, a hat, and sunblock (optional). Your child will swim on certain prescheduled days of the week. You will be notified prior to that week which day your child will be swimming. Please be sure to pack a swimming suit and towel for those dates.

Is there an After Camp Program?

Yes, the After Camp program operates from 3:00 pm – 5:30 pm.

Will there be field trips?

In a typical year, yes. We go to water parks, trampoline parks, baseball games, bowling alleys, etc. Last summer, we were able to go on most of our favorite field trips. However, we will have to wait and see what the status of the pandemic is by the time camp rolls around. We are keeping our fingers crossed that we will be able to bring the kids to our favorite field trip spots. If we are not able to, we are already planning on how to bring the field trip experience right to camp.

Is there a lunch program available?

The Hi-Five Hot Lunch Program offers campers individual meals catered by Chicago’s favorites like Fontano’s Subs, Popeye’s, Taco Bell, Buona Beef, and Lou Malnati’s. And every week ends with the famous Hi-Five Friday cookout. In addition, we offer a healthy and balanced menu of basics like WOW Butter (contains no peanuts) and jelly, bagels and cream cheese, plus fresh fruits every single day. So in addition to the catered meal, there are also many other healthy options to choose from. Our lunch program is peanut-free and a vegetarian option is always available. Of course, campers are welcome to bring their own lunches any time; refrigeration is available.

What is the staff-to-child ratio?

5-6 campers: 1 staff member

When are camp fees due?

May 1st all camp fees are due. You always have the option to pay-in-full too.

What happens if my child sustains an injury at camp?

If an injury occurs, campers will be brought to our on-staff certified athletic trainer. If not too serious, once the injury is dealt with, the trainer will call the parents to notify them of the injury. If serious, Hi-Five will call 911.

Is Hi-Five only about sports and competition?

Heck no! We provide a safe, encouraging and fun environment in which children can experience sports. We strive to make Hi-Five an experience filled with high-energy and positivity. We believe athletics builds confidence and ultimately provides a focus that is important all through life. In addition to sports, we have talent shows, Halloween in July, and all sorts of fun, engaging activities for your camper to enjoy.

Where and when does my child get picked up and dropped off from the bus?

During registration, you will have the choice to pick which Cluster Stop works best for your family. As we get closer to summer, you will get confirmation with your assigned drop-off and pick-up cluster stop. Proposed 2024 Bus Stops

What does a typical day include?

A typical day includes: sports games & stations, daily themed activities, water breaks, fun treats, spontaneous dance parties, special guests and time to cool off!

Is there an additional cost for after-camp?

Yes, it is an additional $175 per week.

Is there an instructional swim program?

Yes, there is an instructional swim program for our PreK – 3rd Grade campers. They will have instructional swim 1-2x per week.

Is there breakfast available for campers?

Lunch and two snacks are provided. A nutritious breakfast should be eaten at home before coming to camp, however, if any camper is hungry, we have snacks readily available.

Can you customize your weeks?

Yes, you can. You can choose to go any combination of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8 weeks.

What do the campers do during inclement weather?

We have great indoor facilities including an air-conditioned cafeteria, classrooms, gymnasiums and a theater! These great facilities allow us to continue the majority of our daily activities even in the event of rain or extreme heat. We may plan some off-camp activities in the event of rain as well.

What if my child has allergies or necessary medication?

Campers taking medication must have a signed medical authorization form. Please send the medication with your child on the first day of camp. Our on-staff Certified Athletic Trainer will keep it for the summer and administer it per your authorization. Please CLEARLY LABEL all medication.

What do you do for birthdays during camp? Can parents bring snacks?

Yes, parents are welcome to bring cupcakes, doughnuts, or any handheld item that doesn't involve cutting and serving.

Hi-Five for the Younger Kids

Buddy Ball Division - "Sports Camp 101"

  • Kindergarten-1st grade
  • Allows our emerging athletes to play the same activities as the older kids, but at an age-appropriate level
  • Buddy Ballers will be divided into small teams with their own respective counselor (5-6:1 ratio)
  • Our activities emphasize gross motor skills and balance rather than fine-tuned technical movements.
  •  We use various techniques such as:
    • Shorter, varied activities and lots of breaks
    • Smaller, lighter equipment
    • Individual activities and small groups

Little Buddies Division - “Buddy Ballers in Training!”

  • Like Buddy Ball, sports activities are downsized to encourage coordination, teamwork, social and emotional development as well as enhancing gross and fine motor skills while, of course, having fun!
  • This age group learns best through play and exploration, not structured drills.
  • Little Buddies will be divided into small teams with their own respective counselor (4:1 ratio)
  • Little Buddies is an all-day program (9am – 3pm)

The second half of the day, C.I.T.s will participate in camper activities designed especially for their age group. Special field trips and on-campus events will also be planned with this age group in mind.

8th graders may also choose to attend Hi-Five as full-time campers!
